10/15 Earth Science update and homework due 10/22

Hi folks,

Today we spent a good amount of time trying to figure out what ions are and how to calculate what charge they may have.  We also did a lab where we made a highly saturated sugar water solution and we are going to give it time to create sugar crystals.  Next week we will talk about the different properties of matter and do a bit more with crystals.

Homework for next week is to answer the following questions to practice what we worked with today in class.

There is a periodic table at the back of your text books or you can use this one if you wish. http://www.ptable.com/

1.  How many protons does Rubidium have?

2.  How many protons does Einsteinium have?

3.  How many protons does Uranium have?

4.  How many electrons does Oxygen have?

5. How may electrons does Gold have?

6.  How many electrons does Calcium have?

7.  How many neutrons does Helium have?

8.  How many neutrons does Francium have?

9.  If Cadmium has a +2 charge, how many electrons does it have?

10.  If Phosphorus has a -3 charge, how many electrons does it have?

11.  If Boron has 8 electrons, what charge does it have?

12.  If Lithium has 2 electrons, what charge does it have?
